Make Garden Hose Like Pressure Washer

[ad#ad-1]

As I was cleaning off my back porch the other day with the garden hose, I got to thinking: What if there was an attachment for a hose that would make it act like a pressure washer? Many of you are searching for a part like this, so I thought I would set some things straight.

No matter what type of attachment it is, nothing that you just screw on will make your hose act like a pressure washer — the pressure coming out of the washer is just too high for a run of the mill garden hose to emulate.

Just like “Greetings!” is another way of saying “Hello!”, there are several different names for the same device: pressure washers. A pressure cleaner or high pressure cleaner is the same as a pressure washer.

Pump Replacements — Buying The Right One

For those of us who use our pressure washers on a regular basis, wear and tear will start to take place, and soon you will need to replace your pump. Here are a few guidelines for those who are in the market for a washer pump replacement.

  1. Know Your Terminology. Crankcases and manifolds can be a bit daunting if you’re new to pressure washing, but they don’t have to be. Make sure the crankcase is precision diecast and finished with anticorrosion prevention, and the manifold is also precision cast and has large coupling fans.

  3. Know Your Washer. Make sure you read your owner’s manual and find out which pump models are compatible with your washer.
  4. Know Your Upgrades. There are pump and then there are PUMPS. Some pumps come with ceramic coated stainless steel pistons, angular contact ball bearings, and continuously lubricating seals. These pumps are typically more expensive than your standard variety, but what you lose in price you gain in the pumps longevity.Pressure Washer Pump

Washer Or Cleaner? You Decide.

Pressure Cleaner

Whether you call it a pressure washer or a pressure cleaner, it’s the best way to make your surfaces shine like new. You could also make a quick and easy buck by offering to clean your neighbors’ porches, walkways, and driveways. If you do decide to do that, here are some suggestions.

  • If you must use chemicals, make sure you get your neighbors’ consent and approval of the chemicals to be used.
  • Be sure to rinse the surface thoroughly after cleaning.
  • Charge a flat rate for the job, not by the hour.

How To: Use a Pressure Washer

This post will describe in short how to operate a pressure washer. Note before beginning that all pressure washers differ. The differences might be small, but you need to make sure you read your operator’s manual before beginning so you’re familiar with the way your washer works. With that out of the way, let’s jump in.

  1. Develop a Plan. Think of gravity — if you’re washing sides or a wall in your backyard, make sure you go from top to bottom; for your driveway or a porch, wash downhill. Look out for objects that are sensitive or breakable and avoid these in your washing.
  2. Select the Appropriate Nozzle. You attach the nozzle to the end of the wand on the washer’s hose that goes into the motor. This attachment is what regulates the pressure level, sort of like covering a garden hose with your finger; the less the hole is covered, the higher the pressure will be. You can attach additional accessories to extend the wand’s reach, or to give you finer control over the size of the area that you’re washing.
  3. Chemicals or No Chemicals. Most washers have special nozzles you can attach that allow you to inject soap or chemicals to the spray. If you need to use chemicals, refer to your owner’s manual to find the types of chemicals you should use.
  4. Use Protective Eyewear. This is a must, especially if you’re using chemicals. You might also want to think about wearing earplugs, if your motor is loud.
  5. Check Connections. Ensure the hose is tightly connected to the washer base. If it’s not, the pressure will not be as strong. More importantly, though, pieces could go flying and hurt someone.
  6. Start the Washer. Begin spraying away from the area you want to clean, about 3 feet, and see if it is clean. If it’s not, move closer.
  7. Spray and Clean. Once you’ve determined the appropriate cleaning distance, continue making slow passes over the area to be cleaned until you’re satisfied

One note if you’re using chemicals, make sure you let them work before rinsing. 10 minutes should do the trick.

That’s it!

Pressure Washer Questions

I never knew what a pressure washer looked like until I walked past one in Home Depot recently. Their average size is about the size of of a mini-refrigerator. They usually have a hose coming out of one side and apparently the machine adds its own power to force water out of thePressure Washer nozzle with extremely high pressure.

I will be posting quite regularly in the coming days in order to answer a few questions regarding pressure washers, having done extensive research on washers and their accessories since seeing one for the first time.

My hope is to provide as much detailed information about pressure washers to assist you in choosing the best model for your needs, and to make available information regarding washer attachments.
